Raises over $2,100 – Donates money in honor of Nick

The middle school students at A-C Central (grades 5-8) have raised $2,123.14 for the children at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. This is the largest amount ever raised! This hospital treats children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases, regardless of financial need, and conducts research to find cures. There were 51 students participating this year. That is outstanding for a school of our size. Over the last eleven years, A-C Central has raised $13,449.10 for this great cause. The Math-A-Thon sponsor is Carrie Jo Donnan.

This year, we are donating the money in honor of Nick, a boy from Virginia who is currently in the midst of treatment at St. Jude’s. We are inspired by his strength and courage and wish him all the best in the treatments that he faces in the days ahead.

The following students raised over $125: Lane $141, Kane $140, Jacob $134.25 (basketball), David  $125 (headphones), and Jewel  $125 (basketball). They will receive a certificate, t-shirt, one ticket to Six Flags, a backpack and a special prize of their choice mentioned above. Lane  and Kane  donated their ticket, backpack, and big prize back to the children at St. Jude’s.

The following students raised $75 up to $125: Richard $101, Quinn $100, Cerys $85, Phillip $91, Brandon $75, Tanner $75, and Kayla $75. They will receive a certificate, t-shirt, one ticket to Six Flags and a backpack. Quinn donated his ticket and backpack back to the children at St. Jude’s.

The following students raised $35 up to $75: Erin $46, Austin $43, Eric $42, Robert $42, Allyson $41, Hallie $36, Zachary $36, Deanna $35.63, Carlee $35.01, Sabrena $35, Briley $35, Tiffani $35, Jennifer $35, Jessie $35, Sidney $35, and Emma $35. They will receive a certificate, t-shirt, and one ticket to Six Flags. Erin, Tiffani, and Sidney donated their ticket back to the children at St. Jude’s.

Be sure to check the expiration date of the Six Flags ticket.

These students raised less than $35: Westin $33, Molly $31, Quinlan $27, Taylor $24, Madison $22, Darcy $22, Emily $20, Becca $20, Kylee $20, Ty $15, Nicolle $15, Kirby $11, Adam $11, Hailey $10, Serena $10, Nicole $10, McKenzie $7, Cadence $5, Austin $5, Brian $5, Samantha $3, Kendra $1.25, Jordan $1, and Cheyenne $1. They will receive a certificate.

All students who participated will have Casey’s pizza for lunch at school.

Thanks to everyone who has made a contribution. You are truly making a difference in the lives of children around the world.

A-C Central presents Seussical the Musical PDF Print E-mail

What do you get when you take a mischievous cat, a caring elephant, a boy with a vivid imagination, a trouble making kangaroo, an entire planet of teeny tiny people, some birds, some monkeys, and a great menagerie of other animals and place them all in the Jungle of Nool?  Well, you get the whimsical world of Seussical the Musical. That’s what!

Seussical the Musical incorporates many of the best loved characters and lessons found in an array of the ever popular Dr. Seuss books.  Narrated by The Cat in the Hat (Amanda), the story centers around the book “Horton Hears A Who!”. Horton the Elephant (Brandon), who after hearing a desperate cry for help, tries valiantly to protect the tiny citizens of Who-ville, who live on a tiny speck of dust on a clover.  Led by the trouble-making jungle matriarch Sour Kangaroo (Alyx), he is ridiculed by his jungle friends in “Biggest Blame Fool.”  Yet in his heart, Horton truly believes that “a person’s a person, no matter how small”.

Moved by Horton’s compassion, the shy and self-conscious Gertrude McFuzz (Lexi) falls in love with Horton but is distressed that he doesn’t notice her because of her plain single feathered tail.

Horton befriends a boy Who named JoJo (Haley) who thinks Thinks much like he himself thinks.  JoJo’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mayor (Cody and Kim) don’t think much of their son’s Thinks when it disrupts his classes and irritates his teachers.  JoJo tries hard not to think Thinks anymore but his imagination takes him to places where anything is possible in “It’s Possible”.  Out of desperation to help their son, Mr. and Mrs. Mayor decide to send JoJo to a military school run by the slightly misguided General Gengus Khan Schmitz (Drew).

The manipulative, self-centered and vain Mayzie La Bird (Phoebe) convinces Horton to sit on her egg, eventually realizing she would not make a good parent and ultimately decides to do the best thing she can for the egg.

Other Seuss characters making an appearance include Bird Girls (Lindsey, Victoria, SammyJo), The Grinch (Matt), Wickersham Brothers, the Whos, Things 1 & 2, Yertle the Turtle, and the Hunches.

Come see Seussical the Musical as A-C Central High School proudly brings you 2 performances on Sat April 24 at 7:00 and a dinner theater showing on Sun April 25 beginning at 1:00.  Tickets are $3, $5, and $18 for the reserved dinner theater.  Call the school at 476-3312 for tickets or more information.
